New CVD ball nose and corner radius cutters designed for the machining of NI materials
With the brand-new line of CVD thick-layer diamond milling cutters that were recently added to the existing product portfolio of POKOLM Frästechnik GmbH & Co. KG, the tool maker delivers an immense improvement in tool life and superior finish qualities at reduced cutting pressures.
Thanks to our special manufacturing technique, the synthetically fabricated CVD diamond material forms a homogeneous layer that ensures hardness, wear resistance, and a maximum of thermal conductivity. Laser-cut into form, the tool stands out due to its exceedingly sharp cutting edge.
The resultant outstanding characteristics of POKOLM’s CVD tools comprise, amongst other things, reduced hardness dispersion at a high level and a tool life exceeding that of PCD systems by a factor of 2 to 10. What is more, the minimal cut temperatures and reduced cutting forces guarantee an optimised finish.
This makes the CVD diamond milling cutters the perfect choice when it comes to the machining of NI materials such as complex-shaped aluminium cast parts for engine cases and impellers or the aircraft construction sector. Further applications the new milling cutters excel at include the cutting of copper and brass materials utilised in light engineering applications in the field of machine and apparatus construction. Even thermoplastic materials as are used, for instance, in bearing gear-wheels or seals and housings in the chemical industry can be taken on with ease. But most importantly, it’s the excellent suitability for fibre-reinforced composite materials such as gear-wheels or heavy-duty automotive and aircraft components that must be emphasised.
The portfolio encompasses both CVD ball nose cutters and CVD corner radius cutters. All models feature a twin-edge design with smooth cylinder shafts and right-hand cutting direction. Subject to individual tool choice, the cutters offer machining depths of up to 5 x d.
